October 2024 | Changing Lives, Transforming a Nation
| The Vision Continues to Unfold
Dear Friends of Titian Ministries,
Greetings from Ghana! In the last newsletter, I said change is in the air. I now see the Lord’s hand moving through signs of blessing and expansion.
Our baby was born! Kosi, Georgina, and their girls welcomed Emmanuel into the world on August 29th. He is the cutest little boy, adored by his three older sisters. Emmanuel was born with an extra small finger and toe on each extremity. This is hereditary and will require surgery. We are currently in the process of helping them secure the proper medical care.
William and Xorve, our foster parents, now have a full house. The two boys they had temporarily were reunited with their family. Their new addition is 3-year-old Sidum. Currently at home, they have:
- Kennedy, their youngest, is 6 years old. He is a very active child, a little shy with strangers, but not at all when he gets to know you.
- Jemima, their third daughter, the one born before Kennedy, is 14 years old. She is in her last year of junior her school and is preparing for the national exam which will help determine what high school she qualifies for. Jemima is artistic and loves to do the traditional dancing with her school for the local festival.
- Janet, the oldest of their girls is currently home helping the family while she awaits the results of her nursing licensing exam.
- Kwabena, our 3-year-old foster child has been with William and Xorve since birth. He was supposed to be released for adoption, but so far has not been. He is a bit mischievous and full of the kind of smiles that brighten up a room.
- Julian is a 14-year-old who they suspect was sexually abused but her father. She has two sisters, one older and one younger, who were also removed from the home. The other two are in a different location, and were placed separately from Julian, though we were not told the reason. Julian introduced herself as Juliet, not Julian, and also has said a few other things that have added to our awareness of her need for healing and for establishing a healthy self-identity.
- Angel came at the same time as Julian. She was taken out of a household where she was verbally abused, over-worked, and not sent to school. We expect her age is about 8 years old. She spent a few months under Xorve’s TLC, and then entered KG2 (first year of kindergarten) in September. She picked up a pattern of insulting people, but Willaim and Xorve are teaching her a new way of relating to others.
- Sidum is our new addition. She is very lively and makes us smile. She has had a lot to overcome. Her mother abandoned her under a tree. It was some time before people
reported this to Social Welfare. Before she came to us, she was in the hospital for almost
9 months with malnutrition and bone deformity. Her legs were straightened with a cast and had to be taught to walk. She still has a contracture of her ankle causing her to walk on the ball of her foot so we will consult with an orthopedic surgeon. But the way Sidim scurries around, I’m not sure she knows there is a problem! - William and Xorve also are visited by the adult children. Right now, Prosper is home from university and Rita has returned for a visit. Her mother recently passed away and she came after the funeral.
I have given information about each one so that you could pray for them, for William and Xorve who are parenting all of these children, and for each child. There is much loving care given, but also much healing needed. The Regional Social Welfare Director said she specifically chose William and Xorve for Sidim because of the kind of care she knows they give the children.
All the toys we had are in pieces. years old and well-used. We would like to purchase some new ones for Christmas, as well as giving each child the gift of a new outfit to wear. Donation information is at the end of the newsletter.
Prosper has finished his first year in Graphic Design at the University at Winneba. He is the first one that we have in a university. Before he left, the lecturers I Graphic Design gave a seminar in which they gave information on the type of laptop and camera the students would need. It was much beyond the simple laptop we had purchased for him. We are thankful for some very generous contributions that allowed us to buy what he needed. We chose to buy the best of what was suggested so that it will carry him into his work after university. Needless to say, Prosper was completely thrilled.
When Rita returned from her mother’s funeral, some of the youth from her village came to thank me for the work of Titian Ministries. Back in January, when I was still in the U.S., they honored our ministry with a plaque, thanking us for all of the young people from their area that we had helped over the years. There is a whole list of them, some with whom I still have contact. In the picture, you see Mrs. Gbeve who was the one who brought many of the children to rev. Sharon.
I understand the last newsletter was mostly about our kids too I want to reassure you we are still giving food to the elderly every month. It’s a highlight for us! We still have plans for the Bible School. It has been on hiatus but will reopen with a new class after the first of the year. The teachers are all ready to get started again. Please pray for the Lord to start drawing people to enroll as students. Also, for the Lord to bring a dean who can help run the school.
